Choose the reading task first
Subtitles over a picture and a transcript panel serve related but different viewing tasks. A person following dialogue in real time may want captions, while someone studying the structure of an interview may benefit from a separate transcript view. Kanopy’s current help documents a website-only transcript panel that advances as the film plays and can also be scrolled manually. Start with the actual film and the reading need. Do not assume that a transcription control available in the web player must also appear in the television app or that every catalogue item supplies the same material.
Open the relevant player control on the website
Use the film’s official details page and the website player. The help describes a transcript control in the bottom-right area of that player, separate from the caption control. If you need text over the image, inspect the caption or subtitle options instead. A hypothetical student annotating an interview could keep the transcript panel open while noting the point at which a topic changes. The note should identify the film and approximate time, rather than copying a long stretch of transcript into a public document. The player feature supports viewing; it does not remove copyright from the underlying dialogue.
Keep appearance settings attached to the device
Kanopy also describes subtitle-style controls on its website and a caption-font option on Samsung TV. Those are device-specific appearance instructions, not a guarantee that one web setting controls every screen. If text is difficult to read, identify whether the issue is the transcript panel, an overlaid subtitle track or the application interface itself. Make a small change and inspect the result on the intended screen. Record the original preference so a shared household can restore it. This keeps an accessibility adjustment from becoming a broad account reset that loses useful context.
Build a concise close-viewing record
For each observation, write the film title, scene time and your own analytical sentence. The transcript can help locate speech, while the image and sound still provide context that words alone may miss. If the available transcript appears to differ from the audible passage, retain the exact scene and report it through the service’s appropriate route; do not silently present an uncertain transcription as a verified quote. If no transcript is available for the selected title, use the available legitimate viewing features and adapt the task. The aim is an accurate viewing note with a traceable scene, not a claim that all Kanopy films supply identical text tools.
