LG becomes silent after Sound Out change: check the external volume

The chosen destination can be correct while the connected speaker is set to zero.

webOS: check the model family

The TV control selects a destination

LG’s webOS 24 Sound Out guide explicitly asks users to check the external speaker’s own volume when there is no sound after switching output. Selecting a destination does not guarantee its local level or input is usable.

Identify whether the route is wired or wireless and name the actual soundbar, receiver or speaker. Avoid repeatedly changing a viewing-app login for a downstream listening state.

Test the destination at a moderate level

Use the external device’s original controls to check mute, volume and the intended input. Start moderately because sound can return suddenly after a muted or zero-level state changes.

Play a short known passage and confirm sound at that device. Keep TV Sound Out stable while testing its local controls, then compare TV speakers separately if needed.

Keep the diagnosis specific

If the external device works from another source but remains silent from the TV, record that boundary and investigate the connection and format. A working volume control does not certify the entire route.

For support, list the selected Sound Out option, connection and external level state. This follows LG’s documented check without claiming that every silent case is a zero-volume problem.

Questions answered

Does selecting Sound Out set the speaker’s own volume?

Do not assume so. LG explicitly asks you to check the external device’s level.

Should I start at maximum volume to test?

Use a moderate level so a restored path does not become unexpectedly loud.
