OTT Navigator recording storage: review uninstall and cleanup behavior

Choose a real destination and understand which recordings may be removed by uninstalling the app or applying space rules.

Keep a record before reinstalling

Identify the storage route by its actual type

OTT Navigator supports several recording destination types, and their persistence differs. Begin by naming the selected route: app-owned storage, a chosen folder or a network destination. A folder appearing on a USB drive does not by itself establish that it is independent of the application’s data lifecycle.

Keep one disposable recording for the first write-and-read test. Do not uninstall the player merely to discover what it retains. Record the destination choice, physical device and available space privately. The purpose is to understand the configured storage before valuable programmes depend on it.

Read the documented retention consequences

The developer says its own internal or removable-drive app folder is deleted with the app on uninstall, while a separately chosen system-picker folder retains recordings. It also notes that some Android TV devices lack a suitable picker. Use the options the actual device offers rather than assuming a phone’s folder workflow exists on the television.

For a network destination, confirm the exact authorized path and write account. A successful share login does not necessarily permit creating files in the intended subfolder. Keep source-stream credentials separate from storage credentials; they solve different access questions and should not be exposed in a public screenshot.

Account for local staging and destination limits

OTT Navigator’s storage page explains that network recordings are first written locally in parts and then uploaded. Local free space therefore still matters. A network share with plenty of room does not prove the device can stage the next segment. Inspect both sides when a recording stalls.

The documentation also says WebDAV does not report destination free space for the app’s space monitoring. Maintain your own storage observation for that route. Do not infer that a missing free-space number means unlimited capacity or that every failed upload is a source-channel problem.

Choose cleanup rules before storage pressure occurs

Review the configured free-space reserve and any automatic old-recording deletion option. Decide which outcome fits your use: stopping a new recording or allowing defined cleanup of older ones. Keep a separate copy of anything that must be retained; a player’s rolling storage rule is not an archival backup policy.

After the sample is complete, inspect the actual destination and replay it through the intended app. Retain the final path, rule and result. The expected outcome is understood recording persistence and storage behavior, not a guarantee that uninstalling, replacing a drive or running out of space will preserve every file.

Questions answered

Does putting an app-owned recording folder on USB make it survive uninstall?

Do not assume so. The developer distinguishes app-owned folders from a separately chosen folder and documents different uninstall behavior.

Why does network recording still require local free space?

OTT Navigator stages recording parts on the device before uploading them. Check local staging space as well as the destination.
