OTT Navigator volume keys fail on one channel: inspect the audio route

Compare a single surround channel with a known working one and test the documented software-audio choice narrowly.

Picture but no sound?

Establish whether the failure is channel-specific

When volume keys work for some channels but not another, keep that difference as evidence. Use the same remote, display and output level to compare one working channel with the affected channel. Record the selected audio track where available, since another track can use a different audio format.

Check whether the television or receiver remote still changes the audible level. That observation can distinguish where volume is being controlled. Do not reset every remote pairing before learning whether the input actually reaches the box and whether the sound is being passed to another decoder.

Use the documented audio-decoding comparison

OTT Navigator’s volume FAQ explains that surround passthrough can leave volume control with the television or receiver. It gives a per-channel Use software audio decoder choice through Switch codec. Use that narrow route first where it is available in the installed build.

Record the initial setting, apply one deliberate change and allow the channel to restart as required. Keep the same channel and track for the comparison. A successful switch should be assessed by actual audible control, not just a checkbox. Do not apply the change globally until its effect on the intended sources is understood.

Check level, quality and synchronization separately

Test a modest volume adjustment and listen to speech. Also note any change in the receiver’s reported format and whether the audio remains synchronized. A result that restores volume control can still change another part of the listening route, so record the tradeoff rather than declaring every aspect improved.

Keep the volume conservative while comparing because different decode routes can produce different perceived levels. If the affected track remains silent, preserve that separate symptom. A volume-control problem, a missing track and a decoder failure are different conditions even if each is described casually as an audio issue.

Retain the appropriate scope

The developer also documents app-specific volume fine-tuning, with its own entitlement and mode conditions. Treat that as a separate interface feature rather than a way to amplify above the device’s maximum. Choose it only if the task is finer app-level control after the actual audio route is working.

Retain the final per-channel choice, output chain and observed result. The expected outcome is understood volume control for that route. It does not add a missing soundtrack, certify every surround format or claim a tested IPTV Europe device pairing. If the delay changes, use a separate synchronization comparison.

Questions answered

Why might the TV remote change volume while the box remote does not?

OTT Navigator documents passthrough cases where decoding and volume control remain with the television or receiver. Inspect the actual audio route.

Should I apply a software-audio change to every channel immediately?

First compare the affected channel with its original state and check level and timing. Broaden the scope only when the intended result is understood.
