Recommendation movement is an interface behaviour
A player can rotate recommended programmes while the viewer is reading their names or deciding what to open. If a card moves away before the choice is complete, the relevant task is controlling the recommendation interface. It is different from pausing a live channel or seeking within a recording. Identify which moving surface the available pause control affects.
W3C's carousel guidance includes ways for users to stop animation and enough time to read content. It also discusses pausing when the carousel receives keyboard focus or pointer hover. A touch interface needs a usable route too; a hover-only behaviour does not automatically answer the task for a person using a phone.
A hypothetical long programme description
Suppose a viewer opens a recommendation panel containing a long title and synopsis. The panel advances before they finish reading. They locate the documented rotation control, pause it and then choose the programme. Record whether the control stops the recommendations, the background preview or the main programme, since these can be separate moving elements.
With keyboard navigation, note whether focus remains on the intended card when the content changes. An automatically replaced card should not silently turn a planned selection into a different programme. If focus or the link destination becomes confusing, preserve the exact sequence. Use an authorised sample or ordinary recommendation page without exposing private viewing history.
Check whether the player offers a stable list as an alternative. The alternative can be a practical route for the current session, but its existence should be verified rather than assumed. Do not instruct the viewer to click faster; the interface needs to support reading and deliberate selection at the pace required.
Verify stopping, selection and resumption
After a documented setting or interface update, pause the movement, read the full item, navigate to another recommendation and activate the intended choice. If resuming rotation is part of the feature, check that its state is clear. The main programme should remain under its own understandable controls throughout the task.
A useful report identifies the recommendation surface, timing obstacle, available controls, input method and selected result. This gives the player team a concrete browsing problem while keeping programme availability and media playback separate. A stable recommendation interface helps the viewer choose accurately; it does not establish that every displayed item is included in the account.
Questions answered
Is pausing a recommendation carousel the same as pausing the channel?
No. Identify which interface or media surface each control changes.
Is pause on mouse hover enough for every viewer?
No. Check the supported touch and keyboard routes and whether the user can read and select the intended programme deliberately.
