Find the PBS account holding Passport before pairing the television again

Compare the activated benefit with the TV’s signed-in identity without repeating a station donation.

Distinguish station contact from activation identity

A station’s membership contact email and the personal account used to activate Passport can differ. PBS’s troubleshooting explicitly describes this possibility. Start by establishing which account actually holds the activated benefit rather than assume every message was sent to the same identity. Keep the station and personal account in a private note. A hypothetical household may have made a donation using one family address and completed activation while another account was signed into the browser. Both messages can be genuine while the television still uses an account without the benefit.

Confirm the benefit on the website

PBS recommends signing in with the same personal account used during activation and checking the Passport symbol beside the account identity. Its support also provides a Passport Lookup Tool. Use the genuine PBS route and inspect the activation information privately. A message saying an activation code has already been used can indicate that the benefit was activated earlier; it is not an instruction to make another donation. Keep a current membership-status question separate from a forgotten sign-in choice. If the station needs to correct its membership record, give that task to the station rather than repeatedly relinking an unrelated television account.

Compare the television’s account before replacing it

Open Profile or Settings in the PBS television application and compare the signed-in account with the confirmed Passport account before making any change. If the identities differ, PBS’s current instructions describe Change Account, Sign Out and a new television sign-in through the displayed code. First make sure the companion browser uses the intended personal account; otherwise a fresh code can link the same wrong identity again. Use the route displayed by the actual current app and the appropriate PBS device guide. The station’s original Passport activation code and the television’s current device-linking code perform different tasks.

Verify the linked result with a Passport-labelled episode

After the television confirms the link, inspect the account and a currently offered episode carrying the Passport label. A successful account change is one result; a particular programme’s availability is another. If a benefit remains unrecognized, retain the station, active-benefit status, masked account comparison and selected device for PBS support. If the programme opens but fails during playback, record its actual error. This sequence gives the household a concrete account check before spending money again, while keeping a station membership, one-time benefit activation and repeatable device sign-in as separate records.

Questions answered

Does an already-used Passport activation code always mean I must donate again?

No. PBS says it can indicate an already activated benefit; find and sign into the personal account holding it.

Can the station contact email differ from the account holding Passport?

Yes. PBS’s troubleshooting explicitly describes that distinction.
