Prepare the specific copy rather than just the transaction
Rakuten TV’s current offline help says an eligible film or episode can show Download beside Watch now after renting or purchasing. The download control, not the presence of a transaction in the account, identifies the supported offline route for that item. The same guidance distinguishes supported mobile devices from Android TV. Check the intended phone or tablet and actual title before planning a disconnected session. A television capable of streaming the film is not evidence that it offers the mobile download workflow, and a purchased title is not automatically a completed local file.
Choose the language before retrieval begins
The publisher describes a language-choice popup after pressing Download. Select the version needed by the intended viewer and wait for retrieval to finish. During download, Library shows a circular progress indicator. A useful pre-departure note records the title, episode where relevant, chosen language and the device holding the copy. That is more precise than saying the account has the movie. Avoid treating an animated icon as completion. Rakuten’s help says downloads use internal device memory, so an external storage card’s free space alone does not establish that the phone has room for the chosen copy.
Reopen offline through the documented sequence
After a successful download, the current help instructs viewers to close the app in the background and reopen it without an internet connection, using airplane mode for the offline check. It says that under this condition the app opens only in the Downloads folder and displays downloaded content. A reduced selection there is therefore an expected offline presentation, not immediate proof that the account’s wider catalogue or purchases disappeared. Perform this check while there is still time to resolve an incomplete copy. Check the actual downloaded item rather than expect normal online discovery pages to populate without a connection.
Keep a local refresh separate from buying the film again
The help gives the local download a 30-day presence on the device and says it must be downloaded again after that period. Rentals also retain their transaction and first-play conditions. A local copy requiring refresh should not automatically be diagnosed as a new purchase requirement. Inspect the genuine title and account record while connected and follow the offered legitimate download route. For assistance, distinguish a missing Download control, unfinished progress, an offline-only Downloads view and an aged local copy. Those observations identify the stage much more clearly than reinstalling immediately because the disconnected app no longer displays its normal catalogue.
Questions answered
Is Rakuten TV showing only Downloads in airplane mode necessarily an account fault?
No. Its current offline instructions explicitly describe that reduced view after reopening without a connection.
Does a rented or purchased film in the account prove it is ready offline?
No. Check the eligible Download control, chosen language and completed local copy on the device you will use.
