The two directions are different problems
NVIDIA’s SHIELD guide describes an advance adjustment for delayed HDMI-receiver audio and points to receiver delay when sound is ahead of video. A slider direction should follow the observed mismatch, not a guess that more delay is always helpful.
Use a familiar visible speech moment and observe several repetitions. Note whether the sound comes before or after the matching action. Keep the exact output route stable.
Change one timing layer
Follow the current receiver or SHIELD guidance for the required direction. Retain the initial state and make a small comparison. Leave television processing and app offsets unchanged during that test.
If the result moves in the wrong direction, return to the baseline and reassess which event leads. Opposing corrections across several devices make the final state difficult to maintain.
Check another ordinary item
A global output correction should be evaluated beyond one unusual source. If only one item remains wrong, record that source-specific difference instead of adjusting the room repeatedly.
This page explains the direction distinction in NVIDIA’s documented HDMI setup. It contains no measured delay value or claim that the same tool applies to Bluetooth headphones.
Questions answered
Should all sync problems be solved by adding delay?
No. Some need audio advanced, while early audio needs an appropriate delay.
Can I copy another setup’s value?
No. Use the reference and actual route rather than a borrowed number.
