The tool has a documented output scope
NVIDIA’s SHIELD guide describes its AV sync utility for an HDMI-connected receiver route. It explicitly excludes Bluetooth audio and headset output from that tool’s intended use. A shared symptom such as late speech does not make every output path the same.
Write down the active route and which device applies audio processing. Keep the selected receiver mode fixed. A correction measured for one path should not be assumed useful after changing to headphones.
Start with receiver guidance
NVIDIA first suggests using the receiver’s AV sync controls. If the documented SHIELD adjustment is needed, its guide places Audio video sync in the advanced Display and Sound settings. Follow the current firmware’s matching control.
Use the reference carefully and retain the starting value. The SHIELD utility described by NVIDIA advances delayed audio; audio that is already ahead of video requires the appropriate downstream delay approach.
Compare direction before magnitude
Identify whether speech is early or late against the picture. A delay control and an advance control solve opposite directions. Do not increase a value simply because a larger number appears more corrective.
After a small change, replay the same familiar spoken passage. Keep app timing and TV processing unchanged so the result remains attributable to one adjustment.
Record the specific outcome
If only one source remains wrong, report that separately from a route-wide mismatch. Avoid repeatedly changing the global output for different programmes without identifying why they differ.
For support, include the SHIELD model, receiver route, delay direction and tool used. This page follows NVIDIA’s documented scope and makes no hands-on timing measurement claim.
Questions answered
Does this SHIELD tool calibrate Bluetooth headphones?
NVIDIA explicitly says it is not intended for that route.
Are early and late audio corrected in the same direction?
No. Identify the direction before choosing an advance or delay control.
