SS IPTV channel names: change the label without confusing the guide identity

Use Displayed Name and Standardized Name for their different SS IPTV purposes and test one channel before editing a whole list.

A guide time can be wrong independently

Identify which name is wrong

The SS IPTV editor distinguishes Displayed Name from Standardized Name. Its help text connects the standardized value with available logo and EPG identification; the app’s Use custom channels’ titles setting determines which name is displayed. A title change can therefore leave guide identification unchanged, or appear not to take effect because a different naming mode is active.

Choose one channel whose expected identity is unambiguous. Record its visible title, source-list entry and current name fields privately. If the television is playing the wrong channel altogether, establish the source item first. Renaming a tile does not change which stream address belongs to it.

Choose a display-only change deliberately

Suppose a household prefers a shorter label for a familiar item. Keep a record of the original fields, edit only the intended display value in the connected editor and save. Then inspect the same item with the television’s current custom-title setting. Do not simultaneously replace the standardized identity and the logo when testing whether a shorter title is shown.

If the old name remains, inspect the naming mode before repeating the edit. If the new label appears, check that the item still opens the expected source and that the guide information has not been confused with a similarly named channel. These are proposed observations, not results from a tested television.

Treat standardized matching as a separate decision

When the problem is a wrong guide or logo, review the standardized identity against the actual service item. Similar channel names can refer to different regions, feeds or languages. Keep the desired identity precise rather than selecting the first autocomplete suggestion that resembles the displayed text.

A useful comparison retains the old value, proposed value and the specific guide programme or logo being checked. If no suitable identity is offered, leave the uncertainty visible and ask the developer or source owner about that entry. A cosmetic label is not evidence that an EPG feed exists for the item.

Expand the change after one clean comparison

Once a single entry behaves as intended, apply the same naming policy to related items in small groups. Keep a recoverable list of the original values. This is easier to review than a bulk rename that removes the distinctions needed to identify regional variants.

The outcome should be a readable household label and an intentional guide identity. If only one is correct, describe that exact difference. Avoid solving a name mismatch by changing time offsets or replacing the whole source, because those operations address different properties.

Questions answered

Why did editing Displayed Name not change the television label?

Check the app’s custom-channel-title setting and confirm the correct connected device. The editor documents that the visible naming mode can select the standardized value instead.

Does a correct-looking title prove the EPG is matched?

No. Inspect the actual guide identity and programme information for that source. A display label can be chosen independently.
