Identify the advertisement and the viewing mode
STV’s subscriber help distinguishes live channels, selected programmes with contractual exceptions and promotions for its own services from the broader ad-free on-demand benefit. A mid-programme break on a live stream is therefore a different observation from repeated advertising across otherwise eligible on-demand shows. Start with the programme, episode and whether you selected Live or an on-demand entry. Avoid diagnosing an inactive subscription from a single advert. Equally, do not dismiss every reported ad as expected; the title and viewing mode provide the evidence needed to choose the next check.
Use the dated exception list for the actual title
The service publishes a named list of content that may still carry ads for subscribers and warns that the list can change. Check the current page rather than relying on a screenshot from a previous month. Retain the date of the check with the programme name if you need a support record. There is no need to copy the entire list into a household guide, where it will become stale. The useful result is whether the particular title appears at the time you investigate it. A later title entering or leaving the exception list should prompt a fresh check.
When the exception does not explain the result
STV’s troubleshooting guidance asks viewers to refresh subscription details, confirm the subscription status and verify the account email. Follow the genuine service instructions for the device you are using. A family can have a paid account on one phone and a different signed-in account on the television. Compare the masked account identity privately before paying again. Record whether the same unexpected pattern appears on more than one eligible on-demand title. This does not prove the cause, but it gives support a much stronger report than an isolated statement that advertising appeared somewhere.
Keep entitlement evidence separate from public screenshots
Keep the purchase confirmation and subscription status in a private record. If you share a screen with support, remove full email addresses, payment details, authentication codes and unrelated family information. The public description only needs the product name, programme, viewing mode and observed ad pattern. Do not install an unverified player or provide account credentials to someone promising to remove service advertising. The practical goal is to determine whether the ad is part of the current programme conditions or whether the correct subscription has failed to apply. A second purchase should follow evidence about the account, not frustration with one break.
Questions answered
Can live content contain ads with STV Player+?
Yes. STV lists live channels and selected contractual programme exceptions alongside possible STV service promotions.
Where should I check a programme exception?
Use STV’s current “What content includes ads for subscribers?” page; the named list is dated and can change.
