Volume control has a target
NVIDIA documents HDMI-CEC and infrared as SHIELD remote volume-control options. CEC requires compatible enabled equipment; infrared requires pointing the remote at the TV or receiver. These paths are separate from ordinary SHIELD menu navigation.
Identify the device that should become louder. If a receiver drives the speakers, setting volume commands for the TV may not serve the actual listening route.
Configure the supported method
Use the volume-control area in SHIELD’s Display and Sound preferences and follow NVIDIA’s current instructions. Enable the target equipment’s CEC feature when that method is intended. For infrared, follow setup for the exact equipment and keep its sensor reachable.
Keep the original receiver or TV remote available to establish that the equipment’s own volume function works. This avoids confusing a muted receiver with an unconfigured SHIELD command.
Keep power relationships separate
HDMI power control and volume control can be configured differently. Do not assume that a TV waking with SHIELD proves the receiver’s volume path is correct. Test each household action independently.
This guide follows NVIDIA’s documented options. It does not promise that every television or receiver implements every CEC command or shares the same sensor position.
