Choose the application for the actual Sky TV product
Sky UK now publishes distinct Sky Go applications. Its Glass/Stream listing explicitly reserves that version for Sky Glass and Sky Stream customers and directs Sky Q or Sky+ customers to the existing application. The current other listing is labelled Sky Go Q/+. Start with the home television product rather than choosing solely by the most recent app icon.
The Glass/Stream description covers phones and tablets and a redesigned guide and search experience. The Q/+ listing also identifies its own supported platforms. Check the exact application and device when following a tutorial; a control, feature or platform appearing in one description should not automatically be assigned to the other version.
Separate the free installation from programme entitlement
The Q/+ publisher description says Sky Go is included for Sky TV customers, with content determined by their television subscription and varying by device. It also excludes Sky Box Office events and rentals. An installed free application is therefore different from a membership providing the selected sports channel, film package or individually sold event.
Use the Sky account associated with the actual television subscription and open the intended channel or episode. A general programme search and a successful sign-in cannot add a missing package. Check whether the goal is live television, on-demand content or a separate transaction before treating a locked item as an installation fault.
Identify the source of a recording or download
Sky’s Q-specific network guidance distinguishes home-box access from internet viewing: mobile-data use cannot retrieve recordings from a Q box outside its home network. Establish whether the item comes from the household recorder or the app’s own on-demand selection before leaving home.
Both current app descriptions advertise downloads for later viewing. Complete the required eligible programme in the intended application and verify it locally before travel. A television recording, cloud or playlist entry and completed phone download are different states; finding a title in a list is not evidence that its full video is stored on the phone.
Check the UK travel boundary and data conditions
Sky’s current travel notice excludes Sky Go streaming outside the UK while describing eligible downloads prepared before departure. Check the actual saved programme rather than expecting a retained login or an overseas Wi-Fi connection to recreate live UK viewing.
The Q/+ listing also qualifies Sky Mobile’s viewing-data benefit and notes that advertising can consume data. Keep network allowance and programme entitlement separate when preparing a long session. For support, include the home Sky product, exact app name, device, viewing location and whether the affected item is live, on-demand, a home-box recording or downloaded.
Questions answered
Should a Sky Q customer automatically switch to the separate Glass/Stream Sky Go app?
No. Sky’s Glass/Stream publisher listing directs Q and Sky+ customers to their existing application.
Does a free Sky Go installation provide every Sky event or rental?
No. Programme access follows the relevant Sky TV package, and the Q/+ listing excludes Box Office events and rentals.
