Haruna: open a local video and inspect its automatic playlist

Use KDE’s official package trail and verify sibling-file loading and playlist behavior before adding online dependencies.

A laptop has its own setup route

Identify the actual KDE player

Haruna is KDE’s desktop media player built with libmpv. Begin with the official project and KDE application pages, then follow the supported package route for the intended system. The current KDE page lists Linux installation options and a separate Windows destination; do not infer a macOS build from its use of mpv.

Retain the package source and installed version. Distribution packages, Flatpak builds and platform-specific downloads can have different requirements and access contexts. A screenshot of the same player on another desktop does not prove that every control or optional integration is present in this installation.

Open one known file in a small folder

Choose a short authorized local sample in a folder whose contents you understand. Haruna’s homepage documents automatic playlist population from sibling files. For the first test, keep the folder modest so the resulting entries can be checked without scanning a large personal archive.

Open the sample through the installed application and confirm picture, speech, pause and a small seek. Record the actual file and selected tracks. A file association that launches another player is an earlier identity issue, not evidence that Haruna’s controls failed.

Inspect the automatic list explicitly

The project describes opening the playlist by a configured edge gesture, P by default or an available button. Inspect the actual list and active item. Automatic sibling loading can make additional files appear even though you opened only one file.

Check which entries belong to the current folder and what should play next. A folder containing several editions or unrelated clips may need an explicit list instead of unexamined automatic progression. Keep the desired order clear before leaving a long session unattended.

Keep custom controls and online helpers separate

Haruna supports configurable controls and optional online-media functionality through helper software. Establish local playback before adding those dependencies. A general webpage or account portal is not automatically an authorized directly playable media input.

If a shortcut differs from an example, inspect its configured binding in the installed build. A front end using libmpv can define its own controls, so do not assume every command-line mpv shortcut reaches the same action. Preserve the initial settings before importing custom startup commands.

Verify the actual session behavior

Open a second known item deliberately and confirm the intended list and selected media. If using saved playlists, test the real save and reopening route. KDE’s release notes describe changes to playlist behavior across versions, making the installed version useful support context.

The expected outcome is a working local sample with an understood automatic list. This documentation guide does not certify every desktop package, optional helper or IPTV Europe account. Keep the source, package and control details so later changes can be assessed against the actual baseline.

Questions answered

Why did several files appear after I opened one video?

Haruna documents automatic playlist loading from the same folder. Inspect the actual list and intended next item.

Does using libmpv mean every mpv shortcut is unchanged?

No. Haruna offers its own configurable controls. Check the active application and binding.

Should I diagnose a helper-dependent online input before local playback?

First establish a known local baseline, then identify the actual helper and source requirement for the online task.
