Use the project’s actual desktop distribution
IPTVnator is maintained in 4gray/iptvnator, with 4gray.github.io/iptvnator as the project website. Its download page provides Windows, macOS and Linux packages. Select the operating system and processor architecture deliberately; a package for one platform is not evidence of a supported installation on another.
The maintainer warns that websites selling IPTVnator subscriptions, channels or activated builds are not affiliated with the project. The application supplies a player interface. Screenshots containing channel artwork are demonstrations, not a source package included with the download.
Choose one of the documented M3U import routes
In the desktop application, open Add playlist from the dashboard, header switcher or command palette. The publisher documents three M3U choices: M3U URL for a supplied link, M3U file for a local playlist, and Raw m3u text for the playlist contents themselves. Select the type that corresponds to the information you actually possess.
For a URL, enter the complete legitimate address and optionally provide a recognizable title. For a file, select the intended file rather than a webpage saved with a misleading extension. For raw text, paste the playlist data rather than its filename. Confirm Add playlist, then inspect the imported groups and channel names.
Add XMLTV through the desktop EPG controls
The first-party guide documents Settings > EPG > Add EPG source for a supplied XMLTV address. Plain XML and compressed XML.GZ are described. Save the source and read its reported status before judging the empty or populated programme display.
The guide distinguishes global sources added in Settings from sources attached to a particular playlist’s details. Use the narrower scope when the guide belongs to only that playlist. A guide belonging to a different source can load successfully while still failing to match the expected channel identifiers.
Keep desktop and self-hosted browser capabilities apart
The project also distributes a browser version through self-hosting. Its current M3U guide says the desktop application downloads and processes XMLTV, while the browser version does not load that guide data. A stream playing in a browser is therefore not a test of desktop EPG processing.
For maintenance, use the documented playlist details to refresh the source or enable its desktop startup update. Preserve whether the import was a URL, local file or pasted text; that tells you what data can actually be refreshed. Do not assume an item imported from static text will start tracking an unrelated online file.
Check one permitted item after import, then assess guide matching, favourites and any optional player integration. The current project documents external and experimental embedded playback options, but those are separate configurations. Start with the selected default so a failure can be attributed to a known playback route.
Questions answered
Does IPTVnator sell access to a playlist?
The maintainer says the project does not sell subscriptions, channels or playlists. Use its genuine distribution and your own authorized source.
Why does my self-hosted browser session lack an M3U XMLTV guide?
The current guide identifies XMLTV processing as a desktop capability. Do not infer full desktop feature parity from browser playback.
Is a guide that downloaded successfully guaranteed to match?
No. Loading the XMLTV source and matching its channel identifiers to the playlist are separate checks.
