Identify how the guide is obtained
Before choosing an update time, record the guide source used by each relevant channel. NextPVR's official setup guidance discusses scheduled guide updates and warns that over-the-air guide collection can interfere with recording or live use. A maintenance plan should therefore name the resource being used, not simply say refresh nightly.
Inventory the ordinary recording schedule, expected live-viewing periods and the guide coverage currently available. If several channels use different guide routes, keep them identifiable. This guide concerns an already authorised source and does not provide a paid guide account, programme rights or access to an encrypted service.
Choose a quiet window for the actual installation
Review Settings > Guide > Automatic EPG Update. The checked setup guide specifies hh:mm:ss, with comma-separated values for multiple times; a manual update is available in Settings > General. The checked setup page includes older interface examples, so confirm labels and supported formats in the installed release. Select a period when the relevant resources are normally idle, leaving room for variability rather than scheduling directly against the next important recording.
Do not choose a universal time merely because it appears in an example. A household with overnight recordings has a different quiet window from an office with daytime presentations. If you configure more than one daily update, explain the freshness need and review each occurrence for overlap instead of assuming that more updates are always better.
Verify one update before expanding the schedule
During a planned quiet period, inspect the guide before and after an update. Record coverage dates, a representative channel and any visible result. A completed update action does not automatically prove that the expected future events were supplied for every channel.
If the guide depends on an external file-generation step you already administer, keep that dependency and its output separate from NextPVR's import. Do not copy an unfinished platform-specific script example or invent a Linux path from a Windows instruction. Preserve the prior working configuration while reviewing the actual installed documentation.
Maintain a repeatable review
After adopting the schedule, compare its run times with actual recording commitments and inspect guide freshness at an agreed interval. Revisit the window when recurring recordings, tuner arrangements or guide sources change. A quiet period is an operational choice that can become obsolete as use changes.
Keep a fallback that does not disrupt active recording: defer a manual refresh to an appropriate window and preserve enough evidence to diagnose stale data. No tuner, guide or scheduler was tested for this article. The completed plan identifies the source, dependency, update window and verification method without guaranteeing uninterrupted recording or complete guide data.
Questions answered
Is a guide refresh always independent of tuner use?
No. The official setup guidance warns about over-the-air update interference, so review the actual source and schedule.
Should every server use the same overnight update time?
No. Choose and verify a quiet window that fits the installation's recordings and viewing.
