Name the displays by their roles
For a local presentation, decide which screen belongs to the operator and which belongs to the audience. The operating-system display number is useful, but the physical role is the important part. Confirm which screen people will actually see before opening a full-screen output.
Prepare a simple owned title card with a visible label such as presentation rehearsal. It gives you an unambiguous reference while arranging windows. Keep private desktop material away from the audience display until the presentation route is understood. This is an operational precaution for the local task, not a claim about hidden content filtering.
Choose the right projection surface
OBS’s projector documentation supports windows or full-screen outputs for individual sources, scenes, program, preview and multiview. Select the surface that matches the presentation. Program is appropriate when the output should follow the production; a particular scene can serve a fixed local composition.
Do not choose Preview solely because it currently contains the right picture. If preview will be used for preparation, sending it to the audience changes the workflow. Record the chosen surface and destination display together so another operator can reconstruct the presentation without guessing from a screen number alone.
Rehearse screen changes in the real room
Inspect the audience display directly, or have a trusted person describe the visible rehearsal label. Then perform one ordinary scene change and check whether the output follows as intended. If using a fixed scene projection, deliberately change Program once to verify the local screen remains on the intended scene.
Check readable text, framing and the physical viewing distance. A composition that appears readable on the operator’s laptop can be too small across a room. Adjust layout to the audience task and repeat the same cue. A projector window opening successfully does not prove that captions or important edge content remain visible.
Treat sound and recording as separate destinations
Write down where presentation sound should emerge and verify that route independently. A clean video projector does not, by itself, establish an audio mix or a saved recording. If the event also needs a recording, inspect a short artifact through the recording destination before relying on it.
Close the rehearsal deliberately and confirm that the audience display is left in an appropriate state. Keep the display-role note with the scene collection so a future session can begin with the same checks. No physical display, audio route or OBS projector was tested for this guide.
Questions answered
Should an audience display show Preview?
Only when seeing preparation is intended. Choose the OBS surface according to the audience’s task.
Does projector output prove that a recording exists?
No. A local display and a recording are separate output results.
