IPTVnator local XMLTV: choose a file that exists on this computer

Use the version 0.24 desktop local-guide route and distinguish a valid local file from a path copied from another installation.

A guide time can be wrong independently

Confirm that the installed version offers local guide input

IPTVnator’s version 0.24 release notes add local XMLTV sources through desktop EPG settings or a playlist’s guide list. The documented inputs include absolute paths, file links and the folder picker, with plain XML and XML.GZ supported. Check the installed version before following an older URL-only guide.

Locate the intended file on the computer running IPTVnator. A path copied from another person’s system or an old machine identifies no accessible file by itself. Keep the current filename, location and date privately so a later refresh can be traced to a known source.

Select the file through the supported route

Open the relevant EPG source controls and choose the intended local file. The release notes describe a native confirmation for typed paths. Read that confirmation rather than assuming the text entered is the same file you meant to select.

If the file belongs to one playlist, keep its scope distinguishable from guides intended for several sources. Avoid adding both a local copy and a remote copy without a clear reason; duplicate-looking schedules make later diagnosis less transparent. Save the chosen source and inspect its import result.

Check import, identity and date separately

After processing, inspect one known channel and a programme within the file’s actual date coverage. A successfully read XML file can still describe another region or an older schedule. A completed file read is therefore a different result from a correctly matched current programme.

For an original acceptance check, retain the file date and one channel identifier with the expected programme boundary. If the file imports but the row stays empty, use the channel-mapping investigation. If the file cannot be read, keep the exact path or permission error instead of shifting display times.

Maintain the file as a separate dependency

When moving computers, preserve the local guide file separately from source configuration and select its new location deliberately. Avoid assuming that a familiar filename means identical contents. An external-drive path also depends on that drive being present.

The expected result is one known local guide source and a checked programme match. This does not establish an automatic update schedule for a static file or guarantee that old guide coverage remains useful. No local file or XMLTV import was tested for this article.

Questions answered

Can I use another computer’s absolute path unchanged?

Only if it actually identifies the intended accessible file on this computer. Locate and select the real destination file.

Does a successful local import prove the programme data is current?

No. Check the file’s date coverage and a known channel after processing.

Why identify the installed release first?

Local XMLTV input is explicitly documented in version 0.24. Older instructions can describe a different set of available controls.
