Separate the description from the playable item
A wrong poster does not establish that the underlying stream is wrong. TMDB supplies descriptions, not video. Start by checking the source item’s title and year and whether playback is actually the expected film or episode.
Record the visible mismatch precisely: for example, the stream is the intended film but the description belongs to a similarly named title from another year. This gives the investigation an identity question. Replacing a working source account would be a much broader change with no clear connection to that mismatch.
Check whether the result belongs to optional enrichment
Settings, Metadata holds the optional enrichment and cache controls. Clearing that cache refetches metadata without removing playlists, favorites or history. Confirm the intended action before changing a working source connection.
Before clearing, retain the incorrect title, year, poster or plot in private notes and choose one item for the comparison. If the incorrect field was supplied by the content source itself, note that distinction. A fresh external lookup and a provider catalogue correction are different operations.
Compare one refetched result
Use the documented cache control only after deciding its scope is appropriate, then reopen the chosen item and let the lookup finish. Keep the source connection unchanged. Compare the refetched identity, not merely whether the page redraws or the artwork takes time to arrive.
If the same wrong match returns, retain the provider’s item name and year with the app version. A cache refresh cannot turn an ambiguous title into an exact identity by itself. If the extra information never arrives, record whether the provider’s own details remain visible and whether another known item can be enriched.
Keep metadata recovery separate from account recovery
Keep the metadata result and content-account result distinct in your report. If playback still works, preserve that evidence while investigating the description. Do not delete a working source simply to make its poster disappear; first identify which data supplied the incorrect image.
The accepted result is either the correct descriptive identity or a specific unresolved match. It is not a claim that better artwork unlocks a film, changes its codec or establishes its licensing. No movie source or API key has been accessed for this procedure.
Questions answered
What should I preserve before requesting another lookup?
Keep the incorrect identity, the source title and year, and one intended comparison item. That makes the next result assessable.
What if a fresh lookup returns the same wrong film?
Retain the mismatched identity for support. The unresolved matching input matters more than repeatedly clearing the same result.
