Identify what the address actually represents
VLC for iOS can download a media file through its documented Downloads route. A web address can instead point to a sign-in page, a video-site watch page or a redirect requiring a different application. Begin by confirming that the source owner actually supplies a downloadable file address and permits the copy.
Keep secret tokens and account-bearing URLs private. A link that works in an authenticated browser is useful context but does not establish that the mobile downloader shares that browser session. Record the input type and visible result rather than altering the address to guess hidden files.
Use the app’s documented Downloads control
VideoLAN’s iOS 3.X documentation gives Network and Downloads, followed by the URL and Download action. Use the current application’s matching controls and enter the complete authorized file address. Check available local storage before starting a large file.

Do not treat a failed watch-page input as evidence that all file downloads are broken. The supported task is a file transfer, and a service’s own offline feature is a separate workflow.
Observe transfer completion and the local item
Watch the progress indication and wait for completion. If the transfer fails, retain the exact visible error and the stage reached with the private address redacted. Avoid repeated downloads with different filenames before checking whether a partial or completed item already exists.
After completion, locate the item in VLC’s local collection and open it. Check the beginning, a later point and the expected audio. A stored file can still be incompatible or incomplete, so presence and successful playback should be recorded separately. The filename extension alone does not prove what the server returned.
Test the intended offline use
If the purpose is travel or disconnected viewing, use the app’s local route and perform a deliberate offline check while the normal network is still available for recovery. Confirm any required subtitle or audio selection on the actual copied item. A playable remote reference is not an offline copy.
Keep the source original or another recoverable copy until the local result is verified. The expected outcome is one complete playable file through the documented downloader. It does not grant rights to copy a programme, bypass access controls or guarantee that every service exposes a direct download URL.
