Separate automatic discovery from manual connection
VideoLAN’s iOS guide describes opening Network, selecting a detected SMB server and using Connect with the appropriate username and password. It also documents Network and Connect as a manual route if discovery does not show the server. A missing discovered icon does not prove the server cannot be reached through its correct address.
Keep the phone on the authorized network for the share. A private server address saved at home is not automatically reachable through mobile data. Use the actual network route supplied by the owner, and preserve any permission error as a different result from a server that cannot be contacted at all.
Keep remote storage distinct from offline copies
Playing through a share depends on the server and network remaining available. If offline use is needed, use an explicitly supported local-copy route and verify that copy separately. A cached poster or remembered share name is not proof that the full video is stored on the phone.
Retain the VLC version, iOS version, share type and first failed stage for support. The expected outcome is a readable authorized share and a checked media sample. This procedure does not recommend enabling legacy SMB components, expose the share publicly or establish that an IPTV Europe account uses SMB for content delivery.
Questions answered
Why does a NAS website password not necessarily work for SMB?
Administration and file sharing can use different endpoints and accounts. Obtain the intended authorized file-share credentials.
Does a visible SMB server prove playback will work?
No. Discovery, login, folder access and media decoding are separate stages. Test one known file after connecting.
