Establish that this is a local file transfer
VLC for iOS documents a Sharing via WiFi route that receives files from a computer’s browser. It is a transfer into the mobile app, not a way to authorize an IPTV subscription or publish the phone as a general internet server. Begin with one small video you own or have permission to copy.
Check available storage on the iPhone or iPad and keep the original on the computer. Give the sample a recognizable non-sensitive name. A short test makes it easier to distinguish reaching the upload page, completing the transfer and successfully playing the local copy.
Open the sharing page through the actual app address
VideoLAN’s iOS 3.X guide requires the computer and iOS device on the same local network. In VLC, open Network and enable Sharing via WiFi. Use the address displayed by that running app in the computer’s browser. A remembered address from an earlier connection may identify a different device or no longer reach the phone.
Keep VLC open while accessing the page; the documentation notes that closing the app prevents access to this sharing page. If the page never opens, record that earlier failure before investigating the video format. A guest or isolated network can also be a different access context from two devices that can communicate directly.
Complete one upload before adding more files
Use the browser page’s file picker or drag-and-drop route for the intended sample. Watch the transfer progress and allow it to finish. Selecting a file on the computer is not the same as completing the upload. Avoid starting a large group until this small transfer reaches a clear completed state.
Inspect VLC’s local collection on the receiving device and find the sample by its known name. Open it and check picture, speech and required subtitles. A filename in the receiving view establishes discovery; opening and seeking establish more about the actual copied media.
Verify the local result and end the sharing session
If offline use is the goal, test the completed local item through the app without relying on the computer’s source connection. Keep a way to restore ordinary connectivity afterward. A previously cached thumbnail is not sufficient evidence that the video itself has arrived.
When the transfer task is complete, return the sharing control to the state you intend for everyday use. Keep the original until the local copy has been checked. The expected outcome is a known local file on the intended iOS device, not a guarantee that every media type or network arrangement will behave identically.
Questions answered
Why did the upload page stop responding when I left VLC?
VideoLAN’s guide says VLC must remain open for the Sharing via WiFi page to be accessible.
Does choosing a file in the computer’s browser prove it reached the phone?
No. Confirm transfer completion, then locate and open the actual local item in VLC on the receiving device.
