Mercado Play: the free selection, 2026 rentals and the TV app

A free platform can also offer individually paid films without becoming a mandatory subscription.

Use the existing Mercado Libre account deliberately

Mercado Libre’s current Mercado Play explanation describes viewing through its existing account rather than requiring a new paid subscription. The company also describes television access and personalised viewing after sign-in. A familiar commerce account is the account context, not proof that every film displayed is free.

Open the actual programme and inspect its viewing label. A free film, a promotional trailer and a premium rental can appear within the same wider service. Keep the selected title and transaction state together instead of treating a shopping-platform login as a purchase confirmation for a film.

Premium rentals were added to selected markets in 2026

The publisher’s March 2026 announcement introduced individual premium rentals in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico alongside the free selection. Its current how-it-works guide distinguishes those rental markets from the wider regional availability of the general service. A paid-film offer in one country should not be treated as a universal feature in every Mercado Play territory.

Check the actual local film page and checkout before paying. The rental arrangement is different from a recurring monthly membership. A launch discount is also a dated promotion, so it should not be assumed to apply months later simply because the original announcement remains online.

Read the rental window rather than assuming ownership

The current guide describes a limited viewing period for a rented title and payment integrated with Mercado Pago. The confirmation concerns that film and window, not ownership of an unrestricted downloaded file. A film added to a personal list has not necessarily been rented.

Plan when you will actually watch before accepting the transaction and retain the confirmation privately. Inspect the offered start/end conditions on the actual purchase surface. Changing from phone to television or closing the player should not be assumed to restart the commercial viewing window.

The current television app needs the actual platform

The publisher’s television announcements identify native app platforms including Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, Android TV and Google TV, with later expansion to additional systems. A manufacturer’s brand is not a complete compatibility specification. Use the current store listing on the intended television.

For a playback issue, identify whether you opened the native TV app, mobile experience or web player and whether the selected item was free or rented. A missing local rental offer, an account sign-in question and a stream that interrupts after starting are different observations. Keep the film and device with the report rather than treating the platform’s regional catalogue as identical everywhere.

Questions answered

Is every film in Mercado Play necessarily free?

No. The publisher introduced selected-market premium rentals in 2026 alongside the free selection.

Does renting one film create a mandatory recurring subscription?

The current explanation describes individual rentals without a required monthly subscription; inspect the actual checkout and confirmation.
