Just Player: open an Android video and attach its subtitle

Use the moneytoo project’s actual file and external subtitle workflow, with network storage handled by an appropriate source app.

Identify Just (Video) Player

The canonical project is moneytoo/Player, titled Just (Video) Player. Its linked Google Play package, com.brouken.player, names Marcel Dopita as the publisher. Its README describes an Android video player built on Media3, formerly ExoPlayer, with Android TV support. This guide concerns that project rather than a similarly named fork or paid application using related words.

Use the release or distribution links provided by the project itself. Check the current build and device requirements there. The player’s documented streaming protocols describe media inputs; they do not turn it into a universal channel subscription manager or prove that every television can decode every advertised video format.

Open the media through the appropriate source route

For a local video, use the file-open action to select an accessible file. On Android, the storage picker and the permission given to the app affect what it can see. First confirm that the intended item opens and that its audio and picture are usable before introducing a separate subtitle or network source.

The project’s network-storage FAQ directs users to an appropriate external file manager for storage protocols such as SMB, WebDAV or SFTP. Open the video from that source application into Just Player. It also documents selecting a text media URL in a source app, choosing Share and selecting Just Player. The FAQ says the player has no interface for manually entering internet addresses. These are handoff workflows, not instructions to enter a NAS account into an invented channel-login screen.

Load an external subtitle deliberately

The documented subtitle action is a long press on the file-open control in the bottom bar. The first use offers selection of a root video folder to support automatic external subtitle loading. Select the intended media folder rather than granting access to an unrelated location and expecting it to contain the subtitle.

For Android TV limitations, the README provides another route: open the video with an external file manager, return to that manager, then open the subtitle in Just Player. The subtitle is associated with the last selected video. Make sure that the last selected item is the one you intend to subtitle before making that handoff.

Verify the selected track and source dependencies

Test a short passage after loading the subtitle. Confirm both the chosen language and timing. If no subtitle appears, distinguish an inaccessible subtitle file from the wrong selected track or a file timed for a different edit. Changing a network account is not an appropriate first response to a working local video with an incorrect subtitle.

The README also describes detection of some HTTP/HTTPS subtitle files when they share the video’s base name. That is a documented convention, not a guarantee for every server or address. Do not rename or alter a source owner’s protected URL in an attempt to discover unprovided files.

Just Player focuses on video; its README says audio-only playback is not officially supported. Keep this scope in mind when choosing the application. Report the player version, Android device, source app and exact handoff stage if you need help. Do not claim an IPTV Europe account test from this documentation-only guide.

Questions answered

Should I look for a built-in SMB channel portal?

The project documents an external source-app or file-manager workflow for network storage. Use that route instead of assuming an undocumented portal form.

Why did a subtitle attach to the wrong item on Android TV?

The documented external-file-manager method uses the last selected video. Check that selection before opening the subtitle.

Does support for an audio codec mean audio-only playback is supported?

No. The README explicitly says that audio-only playback is outside its official focus, despite audio tracks being part of video playback.
