Identify Nova and prepare a real source
The Nova project’s repository links its published distributions. On Google Play, the package org.courville.nova is listed as NOVA Video Player by Courville Software. The publisher describes Android phone, tablet and Android TV use, with a television interface designed for remote navigation. Use that identity when comparing an installed application with a tutorial.
Nova organizes videos from local storage or network shares into a collection. Its listing names computer and NAS routes including SMB, UPnP, FTP, SFTP and WebDAV. Prepare a folder or share that already contains your own accessible videos. A newly installed player with no source can correctly show an empty collection.
Distinguish indexing, identification and playback
Nova’s FAQ explains that initial local discovery may take time and that the player does not point to a supplied streaming service. It also identifies TMDB as the source of retrieved film and television descriptions and artwork. A poster is catalog information about an item; it does not prove that the video file can be opened from the current device.
Compare the folder view with the organized collection. If a video is available in its folder but has the wrong title or poster, check its identification. If the folder itself is unavailable, return to the connection details and access permissions. If the item starts but has the wrong sound or subtitles, record the selected track and the device involved.
Keep a useful first-result record
Note the Nova version, Android device, share protocol, and the stage reached. Redact private server names, account details and filenames when sharing a public screenshot. Those observations give the project or server administrator something reproducible to investigate. Does an empty Nova library mean the app failed to install?
Not necessarily. The player needs local videos or an indexed network source, and initial discovery can take time.
Should Nova’s WebDAV server field contain the entire URL?
The documented dialog separates protocol, hostname, port and path. Put each administrator-supplied value in the matching field.
Do downloaded posters mean Nova supplied the videos?
No. The artwork and descriptions identify media. The underlying video remains in the local or network source you added.
